Harper’s Bazaar Germany is presenting this unique open call to international fashion students and emerging designers to preserve world crafts and culture Berlin: The ABURY Design Experience.

“It’s in your hands!”- This contest truly awakens the faded handicrafts spirit among new designers, and powerfully urges them to revive the world’s dying artisanal heritage by blending their modern design visionary. The ABURY Design Experience is an annual contest in search of emerging designers, to create an accessory capsule collection using traditional crafts knowledge from different cultures. Winners will receive a travel and production budget up to €5000 and will spend up to three months either in Morocco or Ecuador, creating their collection with local artisans.

The collections will be marketed and sold under the name of ABURY and the designer. 50% of the profits will be re-invested in education projects in the respective countries. The ABURY Design Experience is a ground-breaking initiative of Berlin based fashion label ABURY. The main goal is to enable people, emerging designers and artisans, to shape their future with their own hands. The ABURY Design Experience has been created to transform this idea into reality.

“What ABURY has done is create a competition that keeps craftsmanship alive while educating and empowering new design talent and increasing their positive impact on society," commented jury member, Diana Verde Nieto, CEO of Positive Luxury. How does it work? Application is now open until 8 March 2015. Participants should be 21 years old or above, and if already graduated, it should be less than 5 years after graduation. Harper’s Bazaar Germany and ABURY will select 10 designers for the semi-finals. One of two winners will be selected through online voting, and the other by the prestigious jury panel – including Bibi Russell, Fashion for Development; Kerstin Schneider, Editor in Chief, Harper’s Bazaar Germany; Stefan Siegel, CEO, Not Just A Label; Diana Verde Nieto, CEO Positive Luxury; and more.

The partners include many influential fashion figures such as Harper’s Bazaar Germany, Positive Luxury and Not Just A Label, and KPMG, the leading audit, accounting and advisory firm, that will provide the winners with some valuable insights into business planning and how to run a company. Other notable prizes include full PR package, a trip to Berlin, exclusive workshops with Harper’s Bazaar Germany and KPMG, and a feature on the Not Just A Label website.
