Pre-Fashion Summit

A full-day seminar will be held on May 2, 2012 in Copenhagen the day before the Copenhagen Fashion Summit and will include round table discussions and breakout sessions conducted by BSR.

The seminar will gather approx. 100 key players from the industry, including management from large, medium and smaller brands, as well as leading mass market and luxury brands in addition to experts, NGOs and relevant EU politicians.

The seminar is targeted to reach an agreement on a set of recommendations for potential policy making within the EU.

A potential agreement is also to be made on ideas for future joint efforts from the industry on e.g.: new clearer labeling, care labels/washing instructions with lower temperatures and consumer campaigning across borders.

During the fall and winter of 2011-2012, BSR led the process to develop a framework for engaging consumers in the sustainable consumption of fashion. The process involves an open consultation process - the NICE Consumer - with key industry leaders and stakeholders, experts on sustainable fashion and sustainable consumption.

As a part of the Danish EU presidency, the Copenhagen Fashion Summit is a milestone for high-level policy-making. The summit aims to identify the main challenges for the fashion industry for taking action on sustainable consumption and engaging the consumer for sustainability, identify the right political framework necessary to overcome and work proactively whit these challenges, and publish a manifesto with innovative ideas along with a set of recommendations for necessary policy-making to achieve a sustainable fashion industry.
